Story of the Bean: Ketiara Cooperative in Sumatra

This little bean is a global traveler and is proud to be certified fair trade + organic.

Unlike the rest of us, she traveled quite extensively in the past few months -- starting in the Gayo Highlands of Sumatra, Indonesia, with a pit stop in Milwaukee and Chicago, USA, ending up in your cup.

Ecosystem: From the moment the beans are planted at an altitude between 1,200m to 1,500m above sea level, they are naturally shaded. This mountainous forest is part of the larger Leuser Ecosystem which is also home to Sumatra tigers, elephants, and orangutans.

Producer: Our beans are grown, cared for, harvested, semi-washed and processed by Ketiara Cooperative in the Gayo Highlands in the districts of Bener Meriah and Central Aceh, Sumatra, Indonesia. This cooperative is lead by Rahmah, a coffee visionary and her team.

Roaster: Curated and roasted by the team at Colectivo Coffee Roasters in the Riverwest neighborhood of Milwaukee, WI, USA. Their team is top notch and they share our values.

Brewer: Every single box of Kavnia's coffee is small batch brewed by the founder, Olivia in the Wicker Park neighborhood of Chicago, IL, USA. She literally stamps each box with her approval, and signature.
